I don’t know the author but it’s called “”Slouching Toward Gomorrah”” it’s not very long.
Vladimir Putin’s slighting of John Kerry (ignoring him for 3 hours while Kerry was visiting Moscow on official business) was publicized globally. But the way in which it was reported in the United States is very different than what was being reported elsewhere.Putin has made little secret that he thinks the United States is in decline under a succession of corrupt, incompetent, and venal officials (and that Russia is on a comeback). His treatment of John Kerry also reinforces his — and most of Russia’s — perception of the United States as a has-been superpower which no one need take seriously, because it’s people are committing ‘national suicide’ — electing dimwits like George W. Bush and buffoons like Barack Obama to be ‘leaders.’
Legalizing gay marriages in the United States will have devastating repercussions.
It’s not widely reported here, but it’s commonly understood elsewhere, that Russia’s ban on U.S. adoptions of Russian children is consistent with their bans on adoptions by people in other countries where homosexual marriages are legal.
And, if you think that the United States has problems dealing with Islamic countries now, wait until after gay marriage is legal. That could well become the catalyst that unifies Islamic resistance and increased hostility to the United States. U.S. Support for Israel is a big deal in the middle east, but it is not a major concern for most north African countries (except Egypt), and barely even ‘on the radar’ for most Muslims in Asian-Pacific countries like Pakistan, Chechnya, Indonesia, or Malaysia. But homosexuality and marriage are commonly understood ‘culture matters’ in all countries (whether Islamic or not), not a foreign affairs abstraction from distant lands.
